  1. Finely chop the onion and crush the garlic. Place any roasting pan that you've roasted vegetables or meat in over a medium heat and add 2 tbsp of the chopped onions, garlic, thyme and bay leaf.
  2. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the water and deglaze the pan, scraping off all the bits from the bottom.
  4. Add the miso and black pepper.
  5. Strain into a jug and serve immediately.
