VIDA VIBES

This beachfront retreat is situated right at the centre of Umm Al Qwain, nearby the upcoming EMAAR residential neighbourhood. At first glance, this compact resort’s white façade evokes a charming manor but step inside, and the interiors whisk you away to the Mediterranean. The tastefully designed lobby’s white interiors are interspersed with soothing splashes of blue and green. An atrium at one end filters sunlight through, adding a sense of openness to the calm. Just a few steps beyond, the beach tempts with cheerful white and yellow umbrellas and gently lapping waves; a peaceful background score to your entire stay. Ask the friendly reception staff if their mini Polaroid camera is available so you can capture memorable moments down by the water or on the swing near the infinity pool. If you want a bit of cardio, hop on one of the vintage bicycles at the entrance and ride to the Umm Al Qwain National Museum or the Corniche. This resort is also a great spot for those who like to include their four-legged family members in staycays – there are a few dedicated pet-friendly rooms and spaces within the hotel’s grounds.

SLEEP

The resort has 135 well-appointed rooms and suites, many with sweeping views of the water. Each bedroom has one wall with a pale blue wave painted on it, almost bringing the sea indoors. Bathrooms are spacious with walk-in showers and generously proportioned bathtubs for a blissful soak. Certain suites also have a retro vinly record player. Should you find one in yours, pick up a record from the reception – options range from Kings of Leon to Queen. For a more luxurious stay, opt for one of the eight sea-view chalets with direct access to the beach, and enjoy a beautiful sunrise from the private deck.

EAT

Guests can choose to dine at four eateries within the resort – Origins, an all-day dining restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating; Stage 2, the laid-back lounge in the lobby; Socal, a rooftop bar with a southern California vibe that opens after Ramadan and the pool bar, which overlooks the infinity pool, perfect for quick nibbles and drinks.

For a hearty breakfast at Origins, choose balaleet – saffron-infused vermicelli topped with a fluffy omelette – or chubby pancakes with berry compote, Chantilly cream and maple syrup. For lunch Executive chef Shokry Abouelsoud’s signature dish is a salmon tartare, served with avocado purée and a delicious black garlic aioli. Don’t skip the excellent seafood offerings such as grilled tiger prawns, pan-roasted sea bass and a sumptuous seafood platter for dinner. Highlights of the dessert menu includes red velvet cheesecake, apple tartin, classic tiramisu and Greek yoghurt panna cotta.
